Roger Bacon was born in Derbyshire in 1944. He served a five year indentured apprenticeship in the woodwork industry.
In 1969 he attended a one year full-time Design & Craft Course at Eaton Hall College of Education, Retford, Nottinghamshire. Moving to Norfolk with his wife, Margaret in 1971, he started his own business, designing and making bespoke hand-made furniture, which he continued to do for over 30 years.
During the past five years Roger has been using his considerable experience, design and craft skills to bring into reality his ideas in the field of carving and sculpture. Working predominantly in English hardwoods (with one or two exceptions) he gives great importance to the quality of the finish, spending many painstaking hours to achieve his high standards.
Roger’s most recent exhibitions were held at Blakeney in North Norfolk, National Trust, Blickling Hall, and The Forum in Norwich.
